Copper Panchapatra

Practitioners of Ayurveda believe that copper has the power to prevent common health issues such as gastric ailments and chest cold, by balancing the three energies - Vatha, Pitta and Kapha. Hence water stored in copper utensils gets infused with copper ions, which when consumed protects our body from common infections. This healing impact of copper makes it a good choice for crafting water storage utensils and if also probably one of the reasons why many people use copper accessories for worship.

The panchapatra for instance is an integral part of a pooja. It is used to hold oil or ghee that is sprinkled on the yagna by the priest while chanting mantras and performing the pooja. It is also used to hold holy water used to sprinkle on the deities at the time of the pooja – this holy water is then distributed to the followers.
